At Elite Wellness & Functional Medicine, we believe healing is not about forcing the body into change — it is about creating the right environment for the body to regulate, repair, and function more efficiently.

One therapy we are excited to offer as part of that deeper support is IV ozone therapy, also known as major autohemotherapy, or MAH.

What Is IV Ozone Therapy?

During major autohemotherapy, a small amount of blood is drawn into a sterile, ozone-compatible glass bottle, gently mixed with a precise concentration of medical-grade ozone, and then returned to the body through the IV line.

At Elite, we use the OZONOSAN glass bottle system, which is designed specifically for ozone therapy. Ozone is highly reactive, so the materials matter. This is why ozone should not be administered through standard plastic IV bags or non-compatible equipment. The glass bottle system allows the blood and ozone to interact in a controlled, sterile, ozone-safe environment before being infused back into the body.

The Science: How Ozone May Support the Body

Ozone therapy works through a concept called oxidative preconditioning. In simple terms, a controlled, low-dose oxidative stimulus may signal the body to strengthen its own antioxidant defenses, improve redox balance, and support cellular resilience.

Research has explored ozone’s potential effects on oxidative stress pathways, antioxidant enzyme activity, mitochondrial function, immune modulation, and inflammatory signaling. Some reviews describe ozone therapy as a controlled oxidative stimulus that may activate adaptive antioxidant responses in tissues.

In functional medicine language, we think of this as supporting the terrain — not “treating one symptom,” but helping the body communicate, regulate, and recover more efficiently.

  • Potential areas of support may include:

  • Mitochondrial and cellular energy support

  • Immune system regulation

  • Oxidative stress balance

  • Circulation and oxygen utilization

  • Post-viral or chronic inflammatory patterns

  • Recovery, resilience, and longevity support

What Does the FDA Say?

This is important to discuss honestly.

The FDA’s current regulation states that ozone is a toxic gas with “no known useful medical application” in specific, adjunctive, or preventive therapy, and that ozone used as a germicide requires concentrations higher than what humans or animals can safely tolerate.

We do not ignore that statement. Ozone gas should not be inhaled, should not be used casually, and should never be done with unsafe equipment or at-home devices. Inhaled ozone can be harmful to the lungs and respiratory system.

But that FDA statement is also not the whole clinical conversation. In our office, ozone is not being inhaled, and we are not using it as a “germicide” inside the body. We are using medical-grade ozone in a controlled, low-dose, provider-guided setting as part of an integrative functional medicine plan. The goal is not to “kill everything.” The goal is to create a measured therapeutic stimulus that may support the body’s own antioxidant, immune, mitochondrial, and inflammatory regulation pathways.

What a Session Looks Like

A typical IV ozone therapy session is calm and fairly simple from the client perspective.

You’ll be seated comfortably while an IV is started. A measured amount of blood is drawn into the sterile OZONOSAN glass bottle, where it is combined with medical-grade ozone at a precise concentration. The ozonated blood is then gently returned to your body through the IV line.

The process itself usually takes about 15–30 minutes, depending on the client and whether ozone is being paired with other therapies.

Many clients choose to stack ozone with supportive therapies such as:

  •  IV nutrient therapy

  • HaloSauna + red light therapy

  • SUPERHUMAN Protocol

  • Lymphatic or detox support

  • Foundational nutrition, minerals, sleep, and stress regulation

Why We Usually Recommend a Series

While some clients may notice a shift after one session, ozone therapy is generally not a “one and done” therapy.

For most clients, we recommend starting with at least 5–10 sessions because the effects are cumulative. We are working with cellular signaling, mitochondrial support, immune regulation, oxidative balance, and inflammatory patterns — and those systems usually need repetition and consistency.

A smaller series of 5 sessions may be a good starting point for someone who is newer to ozone or wanting foundational support. A 10-session package is often a better fit for clients working on chronic fatigue, post-viral patterns, inflammation, immune support, or deeper optimization.

How We Use Ozone at Elite

At Elite, ozone therapy is not used as a replacement for foundations. It is layered into care intentionally.

We still care deeply about your nutrition, gut health, mineral status, sleep, stress response, hormone balance, detox pathways, and nervous system regulation. Ozone can be a powerful tool — but it works best when the foundation is being supported too.

Our goal is always to ask:What does this body need in order to heal, regulate, and become more resilient?

For some clients, IV ozone therapy may be one of those tools.

Your journey to wellness begins here. Rooted in health, focused on you.
